Make the most of your vision:

Avoid pastels - go with strong colors you can see. Paint doors and protruding wall corners with a high-contrast color.

Use moderate illumination - too little causes a blackout effect, too much, a whiteout effect.

Try reflected lighting - it may allow you to see better than direct lighting.

Don't use strongly contrasting light-dark patterns on a flat floor, since this may create the illusion of a step.
